Show me the Money!

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

We are learning how to add and subtract with money this week. Today, we played "restaurant" and the kids took turns being "customer" and "waiter." They first had to withdraw money from the bank. This was the amount they were able to spend at the restaurant. They had to order from the menu with their given amount of money and record each item, what it cost, and subtract it from their total amount. The waiter had a ticket book and used that to record what they wanted to order. They had to add up all items and give the customer their "ticket" with the total amout when they were done adding up all the items. Money was exchanged, change was given, and the kids all said they were full when they were done! I love the imagination of 2nd graders!

Talent Show 2013

Last night was the annual "Ben Davis Git Talent" at our school. Many talented and brave students took to the stage to show off their talents! I am so proud of the students representing our class: Eliza, Leah, Isabella, Mary Bibb, and Towns. Great job girls!
Some of the teachers also performed. You can see the "Claptastics" here on YouTube -

Famous Faces

Today we capped off our IB unit, "Famous Faces." We have been studying nonfiction books and biographies for the past six weeks and have had so much fun learning about famous people throughout history that have contributed to our society.

Donors Choose

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

As your kids may tell you, we spend about 15% of our day at our seats and the other 85% on the floor! The kids have used my well-worn threadbare mismatched carpets without complaint BUT the time has come to put in a special request - a new classroom rug!

Please visit our donation page and feel free to donate any amount you can - all are accepted and GREATLY appreciated!
Here is the rug our class is hoping for:
