Goal Setting

Thursday, February 26, 2015

This year, we are really working on goal setting in my class. A gifted researcher, Del Siegle stated that when students set goals for themselves, they "make faster progress in learning skills or content, they learn an important self-regulation skill, and they improve their self-efficacy and interest in a task."
With this knowledge in mind, I've created a goal-setting chart to be a constant visual reminder of our current goals in class. During next week's student-led conferences, each child will have the opportunity to set a small, achievable goal for themselves with their parent. They will write it on a sticky note and place it in their "goal box" on this chart. As they meet their goals, they can take the note down and get their picture made with their met goal. The cycle will continue with setting a new goal and posting it on the chart.

Valentines Day

Friday, February 13, 2015

Today, room 124 celebrated an (early) Valentine's Day! We had a Valentine's Box Decorating contest (categories: Best Traditional, Most Colorful, Super Slot, Funniest, and Most Creative). We wrote Valentine's stories, handed out cards, and enjoyed a decorate-your-own cupcake buffet. It was a day full of fun and love!
Boxes all lined up for voting
