Our Trip to the Airport

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

The Davis C2 family took a trip the 187th Air National Guard and the Montgomery Regional Airport on Wednesday, October 12. As a class, they have chosen to do an in-depth study on flight for their current project. They had many questions about airplanes, jets, helicopters, and airports. They watched F-16s take off, toured an F-16, practiced flying an F-16 in a flight simulator, and tried on a flight suit and helmet,. In the afternoon, they went to the Montgomery Airport. They toured check in, went through security, saw the different terminals, drove a jet bridge, had a session with the on-site fire truck, and went through baggage claim. It was a great day of learning!

Birding Mini-Session and Field Study

On Monday, October 17, the Davis community 2 students enjoyed a very special visitor. Tonya Williams, who is a local resident and teaches “The Sassy Puffin Birding Course” came to help us with our study on flight. The children have had many questions about animals that fly. She taught us about the parts of the bird, bird calls, bird colorings, and showed us her field guide. We made binoculars and our own birding field study journals. We set out on a walking field trip around the PRS property with her to listen for and find birds that are local to our area. We saw and heard many different types of birds and marveled at how different they all were. Thank you Ms. Williams for helping the Davis family further their knowledge on their flight project!
