Our New Classroom 2016-2017

Summer has gone by in the blink of an eye and a new year is upon us. Community 2 has moved upstairs! This July, six excited 2nd grade teachers busily prepared our learning spaces to greet our new children for the new school year ahead. You may notice the classroom is kept sparse and the walls are not decorated and wonder why. We believe the classroom belongs to the children most of all and that it should be as much of a blank slate as possible for them! There will be plenty of ideas, charts, and projects that will eventually COVER every space these walls have to offer with the childrens' creations so, for now, it is left blank so that the possibilities to think, innovate, and create are endless!

Our "Meet Your Lead Learner" on Wednesday, August 4. We had 2 times available for parents - 12 to 1 and 6 to 7. Room 238 had a great turn out! Here is a 360 degree photo I snapped right after our last group finished up.

I am very much looking forward to the first day of school with this precious group of children. Each year is exciting and I'm sure this one will not disappoint. Every sweet child walked in today with a huge smile and a handshake or timid hug ready to meet their lead learner and take on 2nd grade. I already know those will be the same faces that will be grinning ear-to-ear on the last day of school, arms wrapped tightly around my waist wishing me a happy summer but at the same time sad to see the year pass so quickly. Being blessed with 9 months with these children is not something I take lightly, and it is something that I gladly accept as my calling and challenge.

Ninth year of teaching - here I come!
